Types of Dentures Available

Complete dentures replace all teeth in the upper or lower jaw when natural teeth are no longer viable. These removable appliances rest directly on your gums and are custom-made to match your facial structure and bite pattern. Your dentist will work with you to ensure proper fit and natural appearance, taking multiple impressions to create dentures that feel comfortable throughout the day.

Partial dentures fill gaps when you still have some healthy, natural teeth remaining. These appliances use clasps or precision attachments to anchor securely to adjacent teeth, preventing your remaining teeth from shifting positions. Partial dentures not only improve your smile’s appearance but also help maintain proper jaw alignment and facial support.

Benefits of Modern Denture Treatment

Today’s dentures offer significant improvements over older designs. Advanced materials create more natural-looking teeth that resist staining and maintain their appearance longer. Modern denture bases are thinner yet stronger, providing better comfort and speech clarity. Many patients find contemporary dentures feel more secure and allow them to eat a wider variety of foods with confidence.

According to the American College of Prosthodontics, approximately 178 million Americans are missing at least one tooth, and about 40 million Americans are missing all of their teeth. Dentures provide an accessible solution that helps restore both function and appearance without requiring surgery.

The Denture Creation Process

Creating your dentures involves several appointments to ensure optimal fit and comfort. During your consultation, we will evaluate your oral health and discuss your goals for treatment. This comprehensive exam includes assessing your jaw alignment, measuring your bite, and discussing your lifestyle needs.

The process includes taking detailed impressions of your mouth, which serve as blueprints for creating your custom dentures. Your dentist will also determine the ideal color, shape, and size of your new teeth to complement your facial features. Multiple fittings may be necessary to achieve the perfect fit before your final dentures are completed.

Immediate vs. Conventional Dentures

Immediate dentures go in the very same day your teeth come out. This way, you can keep your smile and don’t have to deal with being without teeth. However, these require more follow-up adjustments as your gums heal and change shape. Conventional dentures are created after your extraction sites have fully healed, typically resulting in a better initial fit but requiring you to go without teeth during the healing period.

Your dentist will help you decide which approach best suits your needs based on your oral health, lifestyle, and personal preferences.

Caring for Your New Dentures

Proper denture care extends their lifespan and maintains your oral health. Take out and rinse your dentures after eating to prevent food particles from causing irritation. Clean them every day with a soft-bristled brush and denture cleanser, avoiding regular toothpaste, which can be too abrasive.

Keep your dentures in water or denture solution when not wearing them to prevent warping. Handle them carefully over a towel or basin of water to avoid damage if dropped. Routine checkups allow your dentist to assess denture fit and make necessary adjustments as your mouth naturally changes over time.

Continue cleaning your gums, tongue, and any remaining natural teeth to prevent bacteria buildup and maintain fresh breath. Many patients benefit from using denture adhesives initially while adjusting to their new appliances.

Adjusting to Life with Dentures

The adjustment period for new dentures varies among patients, but most people adapt within a few weeks. Begin with soft foods cut into smaller bites, gradually introducing firmer textures as you become more comfortable. Practice speaking by reading aloud to help your tongue and mouth muscles adjust to the new appliances.

Some initial soreness is normal as your mouth adjusts to wearing dentures. If persistent discomfort occurs, contact your dentist for adjustments rather than attempting to modify the dentures yourself. Regular follow-up appointments ensure your dentures continue fitting properly as your mouth naturally changes.

Types of Dentures We Offer

Our dental clinic in Las Vegas is equipped to handle a wide range of dentures, including:

Full Dentures

These are designed for patients who are missing all teeth in the upper or lower jaw. Full dentures restore your ability to chew and speak comfortably and help support your facial structure.

Partial Dentures

If you still have some of your natural teeth, partial dentures can fill the empty spaces and blend in with your existing smile.

Immediate Dentures

These dentures are placed on the same day teeth are removed. This means you do not have to go without teeth during the healing process.

Implant-Supported Dentures

For added stability, comfort, and confidence, dentures can be secured to dental implants. This prevents slipping while eating or speaking and can greatly improve chewing strength.

Denture Relines and Repairs

Your gums and jaw shape change over time, which may cause dentures to feel loose or uncomfortable. We provide adjustments, relines, and repairs so your dentures continue to fit as they should.
